DownloadInferus is an award-winning platformer/action-adventure game for Windows and the XBox 360, inspired by the modern Prince of Persia and Castlevania games.
The game is set within The City, a small kingdom perched upon the slopes of an inactive volcano, and follows a day in the life of Aram, a former architect who now works as a thief for hire in order to purchase medicine for his ailing daughter.
As the story begins, one of Aram’s jobs goes bad, and in an attempt to cover it up, his client – the Royal Alchemist – has him arrested and thrown into exile in The City’s ancient underground prison. As Aram attempts to escape and make his way back above ground, it becomes clear that the Alchemist has put a nefarious plan into motion that involves his daughter. The player must lead Aram out of the prison, through the city’s network of underground tunnels, and through the city above to rescue his daughter before it’s too late.
To survive, Aram must harness all of his wits and agility to confront his foes and avoid the numerous traps that lie ahead of him, placed there by the Mad Architect who designed the city’s underground tunnels and passages. To aid him in his journey, he finds himself accompanied by a familiar presence from his past…
Inferus won first and third place in Intel’s Level Up 2009 game competition.

The PC version requires Windows XP (or newer), Direct3D 9 (or newer), and .NET Framework 3.5. If you have an older computer it may not perform well, as it is targeted at the XBox 360 and equivalently powerful PC hardware. Sorry.

Gameplay Tips
- You can combo punch and dagger attacks by pressing your next attack while the Combo Meter (currently a small horizontal bar at the top of the screen) is lit up white. Combo attacks are faster than normal attacks and each successive combo attack deals more damage than the last. If you fail a combo the meter will turn red and lock out your attacks.
- Striking a foe temporarily stuns them and begins an Attack Chain. Each successive blow you land on them during the chain extends it, keeping them stunned. You can have multiple foes as part of a single attack chain and striking any one of them renews the stun on all of them. Utilizing this technique can make it easier to fight multiple foes at once.
- You can use the backdash move to quickly get out of the way of an incoming attack, even if you are in the middle of a combo. Some foes tend to counter-attack immediately after you injure them.
- Falling long distances will injure Aram and may even kill him. You can avoid taking falling damage by rebounding off walls or gripping onto surfaces to slow your descent.
- Almost any ledge can be gripped by Aram while falling or leaping, by pressing towards it as you pass it. Some walls have special Grip Plates placed in them that can be gripped by Aram despite the lack of a ledge.
- While hanging from a ledge, Aram can attempt to Mantle up onto it by pressing Up. In some cases you can also mantle onto a surface while standing on the ground.
- If Aram takes serious damage he will Flinch away from the source of the damage, interrupting any active jump, attack chain, or combo. This can present a serious hazard while attempting to traverse obstacles.
- Standing still after an injury will allow Aram’s health to regenerate and reset the damage he has taken, making it less likely for him to flinch.
- Reaching a Checkpoint summons Aram’s companion, Kimiya, to your current location. If Aram suffers severe injuries he will be revived at Kimiya’s current location.

Simply amazing! This proves again how viable of a platform C# and XNA are together. I ran the game with an AthlonXP processor and AGP graphics card and I experienced no slowdowns. I am a fellow XNA developer that hasn’t gotten anything out yet. Your blog is a constant inspiration to people like myself. I don’t see how this couldn’t win DBP.

I’m glad to hear you liked it and it ran well! I’m hoping for the best in DBP, of course, but there are a ton of really strong entries this year, so who knows how it’ll turn out.

Downloaded and played the game.
I have been following your blog for some time now. All the threads and posts really materialize with the game.
It runs perfectly smooth, the menus, options, asynchronous loading/saving, the web based achievements system (this left me eyes open), etc.
There is a lot going backstage for this platformer.
Nice job!.
